Not that long ago, it would have been very hard to find a company that employs remote workers, but with today’s technology it is easier than ever to work remotely. I have been working from home for most of my career. There are many debates on how remote work affects productivity and I will express my point of view on how I managed to work from home and give a general overview of pros and cons.

Probably every average (IT) student now and then applies for some kind of competition aiming to win a prize and/or eternal glory among colleagues. But is that all you can get from such activities? Certainly not. In this post I’ll try to explain how I managed to get the most valuable prize out of a competition that I didn't even win. How I’ve won, without winning at all.

In agile software development testing is an integrated part of the the whole development process and it occurs concurrently as you breathe life into user stories through programming. This essentially means that you’ll be testing your code, a lot. Since there is a lot of testing going on during the sprints, you want isolated space where you can test new features together with your client until all acceptance criteria passes. It’s not like you can just slap on a feature to your main release branch and hope that things will just work; can you?

This will be another post about Redis and Lua scripts. I’ve decided to show you our new workflow for writing Lua scripts and how do we debug them now. One of the reasons for the new workflow is to be able to keep Lua scripts in a separate repository which could be then shared with other company members since some of the scripts are not particularly specific to the Njuškalo project.

There was this urge boiling up in me for some time to give a presentation to my colleagues that would show them “how it’s done”. Two months ago, when I was promoted to head of development on one of our main products, I got my chance to finally do it. I started off thinking I would just give them a tour of best practices in coding, but when I sat down and really got to think about “how it’s done” I ended up with a lot more. So I summoned the whole firm for a keynote and gave them my view.
